Each member of the house negotiated their own deal when the blog started. How many photos needed to be posted each month (Ciel's agent was good), and what content was allowed. Mika has asked for full veto power on which photos would be allowed. To know Mika, is to understand that she would want all images exposed to be ones that showed her outer...I mean...inner beauty. I remember as a kid, getting in trouble for looking at myself too much in the mirrored toaster. So I can appreciate this stance a lot. With the many photos that just didn't make the cut for her, here's one that gets Diva approval.

Was ein tolles Spielzeug!!!

Visiting my Grandma since the birth of Matisse-Ciel has had some interesting moments. The first was watching the struggle (fight) between my mom and my Grandma to hold Matisse-Ciel. Second, was the careful watch of everyone while my Grandma holds him. She's in total control, but Matisse-Ciel early on wasn't always on the same page. There is much greater ease now with Ciel closing in on 3 months, and there being a better base of control on his end. My Grandma understanding there was some uneasiness, has longed for the current phase. While holding him today he gave her a great smile (wish I could have caught that in an image for her) and while smiling back, I saw she started to tear up. It was an incredible moment to witness and has to rank as one, if not my favorite moment of interaction with Matisse-Ciel. My Grandma has wondered how & sometimes why she has managed to live so long (93 years in Jan.) - moments like this make it clear for me.

Just wanted to take a second and wish everyone a great holiday weekend. Our family has a lot to be thankful for and none more than the great friends we have.

When asked to write a story entitled, "What I'm thankful for on Thanksgiving," a student wrote, "I am thankful that I'm not a turkey."

Our trees are getting that deserted look with very few leaves left. Looking back about a year, we moved in with little leaves showing, and here we are watching them all fall down. It's amazing how fast a year can fly by when you have a few things on your plate. What's great about being a kid is that it doesn't matter what time of year it is as long as you get to go outside and play.

It's interesting how you can have such an enormous change in your life and then there comes a point when you can't remember how life was before.

Here we are now closing in on 3 months (1 week to go) and each member of the house functions as if this little guy has always been here. With Kiana being like a mini mom, Mika coming in each morning for her brother's special kiss, to Kai trying to teach his brother how to make lego figures.

Even with all this in front of me it's most amazing that there are so many times in the day when it's hard to remember life before Matisse-Ciel. It's almost as if he has completed the puzzle which unlocked us from our sleep.

We don't think it's just being proud parents anymore - Kiana has steadily increased her skill levels when it comes to drawing. It's definitely the German in her since Opa (Grandpa), Sabina & Claudia all have skills when it comes to drawing. Kiana was really inspired by the recent visit of Sabina. There were many lunch bags with cool artwork that had been done by Sabina. Those images stayed with Kiana and you could tell she wanted to step up her detail for her own images.

Matisse-Ciel has very serious thoughts during his workouts for the day. He has full confidence in his neck muscles and now he wants to establish upper body control.

He goes all out for about 30min of so. This guy does everything possible to thrust his body up. Just when I think he has to be done with the activities, he makes another thrust up to show he's not playing around.

Now my favorite part hands down is when he runs out of energy and just rests his head or falls asleep during the workout. With 3 olders siblings showing off their walking and talking abilities, this guy gives all he can everyday to learn these important skills.

Kai surprised us with a last minute request to attend a secret event at school. Being all of 5 years old, a secret is one thing Kai doesn't keep well. When we pressed Kai on what it was, he reassured us that all would come to the light once we showed up for the show. The moment we walked into the class, we were greeted by Kai in 'Native American Indian' garb (the Native American Indian was a key phrase of the day). We sat down for what ended up being a really special show of the kids singing & signing songs.

There's a constant battle to see who will help Kai with his homework. One might think that's a beautiful thing, that both parents want to spend the quality time with the child. Where this gets a little sinister is that we fight so hard because the loser gets to spend their time working through hours of homework between the girls. While one parent gets to paint, draw figures and practice the complexity of the alphabet - the other parent wonders how many pages a teacher can give a little kid everyday. We manage to make it through but with Kai & Matisse-Ciel ahead of us we'll need to eat some more protein to build up our strength for the long haul.

going down

We had a a Reggae Vibe going this morning with the little one. It's still up in the air what his favorite music style is, but we all enjoyed him wearing the gear. We'll have him in some platform shoes, rocking an afro, Thumping The Funk, which I think will have to be my favorite look on him.

Le Violin Rouge

It was a tough decision on our hands when Kiana came home from school, asking which instrument she should pick to play in music class. We went through all the choices and in the end, we agreed there could be no better 'noise maker' than the violin. And, if anyone could pull off holding this awkward instrument, it would have to be Kiana. What you are witnessing here is the first video ever recorded of the young violinist.

Strolling Around Town

going down

The little guy has made it clear that in the evening time he really enjoys getting out of the house. This has worked out nicely by Claudia & I taking some strolls around town. Matisse-Ciel just chills in the stroller checking out the sites. He doesn't even take a second to blink with so many interesting things to gaze at. I know how wondrous it was the first time seeing Europe, so I can only imagine how cool it must be to see 'everything' for the first time. It's true when they say, 'kids make you appreciate the little things'. Between the four kids in the house, Claudia & I have little time not to appreciate how grand life is.

100 - Posts Later!

going down

As I explained to Matisse-Ciel what today's post represented, he was filled with interest. Something that was originally just a blog to announce his birth has now grown into a family diary.

going down

He loved the thought that peope all the way in Germany are looking at the blog. Keep in mind, he's just understanding what people are, and to think there are 'people' that far away knowing about him was pretty cool.

going down

I explained that we would keep this blog going for years to come. He gave me a look like 'Does This Mean I'm Going To Have To Deal With You Taking Pictures Of Me My Whole Life'? I let him know, that he could count on it!

going down

Ciel seems to think needles are cool if he can be the one sticking people. I let him know, just to work on that full ride scholarship, so Papa & Mama can still retire at a decent age. He seemed to understand but you never know with these kids nowadays.

Matisse-Ciel had to visit the doctor today and it resulted in a shot. I'm not sure about you but I've never got a shot and thought anything positive about it. This little short video is the first footage post shot. I would say next to his birth this would have to rake as the most painful thing his had to go through in his short life. And, just like the birth the kid handled it like a champ. The only thing is he gets a really serious look on his face, if you say Needle!

going down

When the girls & Kai went shopping for the birthday party yesterday, it made for some nice one on one with Matisse-Ciel. We had a cool time on the couch, with me making noises for a smile and laugh. I hadn't noticed how long I was doing it, until my throat started to feel sore. You just get in a zone at times and keep going with these odd sounds and facial expressions. The cool thing is that, no one teaches you these things, you just naturally start acting like some crazy person with your baby. I love that Ciel brings this out in me, and looking at his face of joy, was well worth the sore throat I'm nursing this morning.

With the recent weight gain we figured we'd start preparing Matisse-Ciel for the ring. Now this is not a career we endorse but if his continues at this pace we can't stand in the way of destiny.

He already seems to understand that one must keep their hands up at all times. He does seem more focused on punching than blocking but i let him know you need both to make it far in the fight game.

In the end I had to tell him that there are no good looking fighters and that alone may make him ineligible for fighting. He may end up using his size to be a really intimidating promoter. If Don King can get rich with his frame, than think of the loot Matisse-Ciel is going to earn.
