WISHING...CONT

RANSOMSOUL

WISHING THE RAIN WOULD STOP...

It was a tough week with the weather - 3 out of the 5 days rained. Here we are on Saturday, and it's the worst day yet. Poor Matisse, just seems confused at how it could actually rain so much. After asking for a snack he sat down in front of the slider, and just looked out the glass.

RANSOMSOUL

With the addition of him holding the ball, it made for a pretty cute/sad photo shoot. This was taken in the morning, now we're at mid day, with no signs of the rain letting up. Lets hope the little guy gets another chance tomorrow to break out of jail.

EVERYTHING IS FINE.....

RANSOMSOUL

First I was slow with posts due to work and then this crazy cough came on me - I just could not shake it. It was easily one of the worst runs of not feeling well I have had. Since I rarely get sick I tend to milk it for what it's worth, but this time I was really in a bad place. Fortunately, Claudia finally got me to go to the doctor and after some good drugs, all seems to be well. I'm sure Claudia wants to say "I Told You To Go To The Doctor' but instead she just says how glad she is that I am feeling better. I am ready to get back on the grind of reporting the happenings on Ransomville. The camera is fully charged, so we should have some good stuff to share soon.

CLAUDIA 2.o cont.

RANSOMSOUL

Being the oldest can carry some heavy responsibilities. Looking at Kiana's tiny frame, there's a level of wonderment for how she manages. After three siblings, there's no discussion on who can change a diaper better. Or when there's some baby talk in the air, it seems like Kiana is a master linguistic. The one that most gets to enjoy these skills is Matisse. One day he will be able to repay her by keeping the boys away from her. Not like Kai won't already be all over that situation!

ART OF THE WEEK

RANSOMSOUL

While trying to take a picture of Kai and Matisse on the side bench, I took this picture in-between them running around. There wasn't one pic from our session that I cared for much, but this was hidden in the box. In the end, I think it was a pretty good booking.

THE MIDDLE...

There's a good chance if you search the blog, I have either titled an image with Mika & Kai 'The Middle', or have written about them being the center base of the crew. I figured even if this ended up being a similar post, it would still carry a different energy due to the time separation. What makes this topic so unique, is how both Mika & Kai are creating this special category of rules that future 'Middles' will live by.

RANSOMSOUL

Mike has developed this new form of counting that starts with the #2 - Kai has realized that he has gone from the smallest to 'One Of The Wise Ones'. As far as Matisse is concerned, Kai may be the smartest kid in the house. Think of the rise that has been for Kai in just 2 years. I can see the 'Middles' plotting their takeover in due time. They are forming a super power that will be unbreakable for Ones & Fours. There most likely will come a time when they ask to break away from the pack and form their own community. Until then, I will do my best to document this special team.

HOW MUCH IS THAT PUMPKIN IN THE WINDOW?

RANSOMSOUL

It looks like it's going to be a little tougher than we thought with carving our pumpkin this year. Matisse has built a surprising love affair with Mrs. 'P' and there are family meetings ongoing to decide what will be the best way to manage the decorating phase. There may be a need to purchase some Magic Markers because as you can see, this looks to be more than 'puppy love'.

IT WAS BOUND TO HAPPEN...

There has been a unique passing of the baton over the years, with each kid having a special moment in destruction of something valuable. Mika had held the crown from years past with her constant need to throw things in the trash. Throwing trash in the trash is great, but keys, money and jewelry can add up to a pretty bad act. Matisse wanting to challenge every record on the books, felt it necessary to express his artistic side. As with Mika, if he would have followed the normal protocol with a marker and paper, all would be fine.

RANSOMSOUL

However, when your two tools are a crayon and a sofa, it's not going to end well. The best thing about being two years old, is you are still in the gray area of not really knowing what's wrong, until you are explained of the wrong you've done. While I went over the errors of his ways, Matisse looked at me with great focus - when I finished I waited for a vocal response, but he just nodded his head, reached his arms out and gave be a tight embrace. It's amazing how children allow you to develop a new level of understanding that you never thought you would have. Currently the house has been scanned for all marking tools, and they have been removed until further notice.

*BONUS - HAT AND GO SEEK

RANSOMSOUL

WAITING FOR HIS SISTERS & BROTHER

RANSOMSOUL

It's pretty often for Matisse to wake from a nap and it fall right before arrival of Mika & Kai from school. After the normal highs and lows from the wake up process, he tends to start the vocal calls for his brother and sister. If he's feeling lucky, he will head out to the front gate and wait for them to come home. It's great when they come soon there after, but when it's a longer wait, this is a sad image to record.

GONE 2 SOON...

RANSOMSOUL

The President of Ransomville has come home, but he's heading right back out next week. This would be less painful if I didn't have two shows this weekend. I'm happy for the kids, because they'll get some quality one on one time, but the first lady has some needs too you know. Hopefully we will be able to steal some special moments before he heads out.

*On a side note, as you can clearly see when Jason's not around the posts just don't seem to pop up as much. He has asked me to share the adventures while he's gone but it's hard to write on a blog you're such a fan of the author.

THE MEMORIES OF MOMENTS

In the modern era of digital images, one has to wonder about where will all the great memories go from years past?

KAI 2.o

RANSOMSOUL

Watching your older brother do what seems to be these impossible tricks is hard to take. You wonder, how does he do those cool things. Since we don't show TV in the house, Matisse hasn't even seen the X Games. At this point, he actually thinks Kai is the greatest skateboard rider in the world. It seemed for a while that Matisse would be content on just sitting on the board and riding around. However, it looks like something has changed and he is ready to actually stand on the board. We're not 100% sold on the idea - even though Matisse is big for his age, he's still only 2. Kai being the self proclaimed expert, has told us, he will make sure all goes well with the 'board and the boy'.

THE LOWS & HIGHS OF BEING 2

There has been a major change for Matisse over the last few days. Over the summer, he got accustomed to a high level of noise, fun and chaos. When it was shared with him that this was going to change due to the fact that the older kids would be in school, let's just say he was not too happy about this information.

RANSOMSOUL

Being the fourth child, he has already mastered the skill of rolling with the punches pretty well. However, the needed adjustment of not having them around was made a lot easier when he realized that this meant much more quality one-on-one time with mama.

JR. HIGH - GET READY FOR THIS ONE!!!

RANSOMSOUL

From the locker combo to the multiple classrooms, Jr. High can be a little heavy to process out the box - not to mention the fact that 2 of your other siblings won't be attending this level. However, Kiana with fear in check, is very excited about this new adventure at hand. To think that High School is that much closer is not something Claudia & I want to embrace, but currently we're enjoying the constant questions of wonder coming from the kid president of the house. It feels at times that she's recording our answers, so she'll be able to buffer some future questions for us from the other kids. Our favorite questions so far are:

Were You Nervous? Yes

Did You Get Lost? Yes

Did You Have Funny P.E. Clothes? YES!

Was It Fun? DOUBLE YES!

BAGGER*BAGGER*BAGGER

RANSOMSOUL

It's crazy how fast a kid can change/upgrade his favorite toy of choice. This Saturday we celebrated Matisse's 2nd birthday with a nice family gathering at the beach. How this is not the gathering for every birthday party will always be confusing for me. This doesn't include our friends from Germany who are currently yelling at their computer screen about my beach comment.

Getting back to the upgrade comment - many know & have read that Matisse's favorite thing by far is the incredible 'Traktor'. It may be hard to believe, but the time has come to put that love affair behind us. There comes a time in a young child's life when he needs to move on...grow up if you will. This moment is here and Matisse has proclaimed his new love for..........drum roll..........:

BAGGER (aka Bulldozer)

The functionality of this is so impressive that he doesn't even take the time to look at a 'Traktor' anymore. To help with his passion, Kiana graced the wall will a little love for Matisse. There will be pictures to follow shortly but I wanted to break it to everyone gently before we show the full transition.

Rest In Peace 'Traktor'.....We Will Miss You!!

IT'S TIRING GROWING UP!!!!!

RANSOMSOUL

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MATISSE-CIEL....WE LOVE YOU SOOOOOO MUCH.

To think this little guy is already two, is hard to get my head around. It seems just like yesterday Claudia was telling me in our bedroom 'Honey I Think I'm Pregnant'. The thought of having another pair of feet running around the house was a scary notion. Never could we have imagined how perfect those feet would be. My heart is too heavy to write much more. Matisse-Ciel you are the perfect piece to complete our family & we all feel so lucky to have you.

LOOKING OUT FOR THE FIRST TIME....

RANSOMSOUL

It's not like something we don't do - taking a trip to Germany is pretty much an annual event (minus last year due to prices). So as I was sending the crew off, something was a little different than normal. We had Matisse taking his first trip on an airplane and of course it has to be a +12hr flight no less. This was not a surprise since the tickets had been purchased months ago and as much as we try, Germany is still far away from California. However, out of the blue I just had this heavy feeling about it. I have full confidence that I'll get a nice text around 2am, expressing Matisse's wonderment of the sights & sounds. In the moment though, it felt like I was sending him into a pressure cooker and he would remember me as being the Chef! Fortunately Saturday will be here soon enough and I'll be able to confirm there's no hard feelings. Until then, I'll embrace the fact that most kids at this age have short term memories.

MY TANK IS BIGGER THAN YOURS!

The main tank called the 'Kuroshio Sea' holds 7,500-cubic meters (1,981,290 gallons) of water and features the world's second largest acrylic glass panel, measuring 8.2 meters by 22.5 meters with a thickness of 60 centimeters. Whale sharks and manta rays are kept amongst many other fish species in the main tank.

TAKE A RIDE ON THE SUN

RANSOMSOUL

Matisse's first time on the Ferris Wheel he had this to look at during the adventure. I'm not sure about your 'first time' but this has to rank up there as one of the best ever. Even with this amazing shot being the backdrop, he seemed to have way more fun playing with Kai & the balloon connected to his shoe. As much as we try get them to notice things, in the end it's about what they notice in the moment that makes it special.

FISHEYE IN STYLE

RANSOMSOUL

RANSOMSOUL

RANSOMSOUL

There's no official need for this gadget. It doesn't even have the third of the power that is in my current D90. However, it's so cool looking I want it! I'll have to get a fisheye lens in the coming future just to heal the wound of not owning this shine ;)
