Ownership in relationship to kids has always carried a very interesting dynamic for me. If you think of it in practical terms, a kid actually owns nothing to speak of. However, most parents spend ample time negotiating with their kids about a wide variety of 'things'. You wonder how a kid with much less experience could even come close to brokering a deal in their favor. Claudia & I have had our fair share of board meetings with the kids, and for the most part we have been a pretty profitable team. This new member of the 'negotiating crew' is starting to raise the bar somewhat. He tends to always end with his favorite closing 'MINE'!!!!! The conviction in his delivery makes you question if the keys in your hand are actually his. He has compounded his words with this Mafia style look that seems to convey something on the lines of 'You Talkin To Me'?!?!

With these type of learning tools available, Kai & Matisse are going to be teaching me chemistry in no time.

It's very common for a boy to yearn for his toys. They can't help but want to play with a sports ball, laser guns or action figures. However, there is something special about a boy and his cars. The passion is so strong it actually never leaves the young boy but follows him into manhood. Matisse has aimed big and tends to not ask for toys but constantly request time in my 'Auto'. The word 'Auto' can be heard over and over again from different pitch levels depending on the level of passion in the moment. You would think he'd become tired of sitting in the car, but instead he changes up the routine a little every time. It goes from playing with the steering wheel to the blinkers, then onto the windshield wipers and a closing performance with the windows. This doesn't even include the blaring of the radio with moves, or better yet gyrations, that can leave you in stitches or speechless. Fortunately, Kiana has moved her homework activity into the car and just works away while Matisse does his thing for an hour or two. Without that kind of support I fear we might have to start sharing family dinner in the car to keep the peace.

I don’t care if Monday’s blue
Tuesday’s grey and Wednesday too
Thursday I don’t care about you
It’s Friday I’m in love

Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday Wednesday break my heart
Thursday doesn’t even start
It’s Friday I’m in love

I don’t care if Monday’s black
Tuesday Wednesday heart attack
Thursday never looking back
It’s Friday I’m in love

Monday you can hold your head
Tuesday Wednesday stay in bed
Or Thursday watch the walls instead
It’s Friday I’m in love

At my age I tend to be a little behind on what's in/cool. Luckily, we have almost every age bracket covered to confirm the hipness of the moment. Without a doubt the 'latest craze' is sneaking up on Matisse and busting this pose. It's a cross between old school Germany and a New York traffic cop. We love to creep around the corner, catch him not paying attention and bust it out. It doesn't even matter if he's laying down - this kid will pop up and rock the box. It's been such a fun activity that Claudia and I do it to each other in inappropriate places like....well you pick where that might be and I bet you're right. If you see us in your view, you better get ready, because you never know when it's coming out!
