It's not like something we don't do - taking a trip to Germany is pretty much an annual event (minus last year due to prices). So as I was sending the crew off, something was a little different than normal. We had Matisse taking his first trip on an airplane and of course it has to be a +12hr flight no less. This was not a surprise since the tickets had been purchased months ago and as much as we try, Germany is still far away from California. However, out of the blue I just had this heavy feeling about it. I have full confidence that I'll get a nice text around 2am, expressing Matisse's wonderment of the sights & sounds. In the moment though, it felt like I was sending him into a pressure cooker and he would remember me as being the Chef! Fortunately Saturday will be here soon enough and I'll be able to confirm there's no hard feelings. Until then, I'll embrace the fact that most kids at this age have short term memories.
